Written in 1882 via channeling in New York City on one of the first typewriters, the Oahspe describes all of the major prophets and their sources of information. It is the first book known to discuss star ships, and the illustrations of a surrealistic nature predate surrealism by 30 years. The book has been published in London regularly since 1882, and in the U.S. most of that time period, yet few know of it. After reading it four times, I felt like it was a different book each time. The vocabulary is one designed to explain both heavenly points of view and earthly points of view, and cover a period of time of more than 20,000 years. It describes the first written language, a attempts to describe physics from an outer space viewpoint. Many of the sections are describing a 3000 year period of time, with a description of heaven during that time on the top of the page, and the activity on Earth as a result on the lower part of the page. The language shows that it is aimed toward the 19th century Christian mindset, with thees and thous. It describes the major religions as the various heads of the Beast, and goes into explaining their failings and reasons for failure.
It is a very corporeal-based in its spirituality, and has very little to say about inner reality. That said, I still find it a very enlightening view of the heavens and how they influence the world.
