The update went okay on the main site software, however, there are several bugs to figure out as is the usual when updating software! I had to do this update as it was a security related one and very important as far as keeping the site secure from additional hacking and malware.
The Friend system on the site has recently become obsolete…it’s an abandoned module that will no longer be receiving any updates or improvements, therefore it has become a security concern. It already has issues (the email for instance is backwards) and other things are not functioning with it after the upgrade…so unfortunately I will need to DEACTIVATE THE WHOLE FRIENDS SYSTEM immediately. I have found a new friend system, so I will be installing that on a test site to be sure it functions correctly before implementing it here.
I apologize for the inconvenience this might cause our users, however, using obsolete software is one way to attract hackers…I would rather deactivate it now while we are still in Beta mode and start over, then deal with the aftermath of outdated code. I hope everyone understands!
Once the new friend system is in place, I will add each and every member to my friend list as I was doing in the old system. This way, everyone knows what I’m doing on the site and you receive notifications and news about the site as it happens.
