Ok, I have managed to spend several hours finding and removing this virus from various parts of the site. Dang Illuminati! 😆 What a pain in the butt! I think I have found all instances of it now and removed it. I have also added extra security features to block this. However, I must do a core update on my site software as there is a security warning for just this type of thing. The site will be down for maintenance from approximately 2pm MST until I get the core updated. With my slow internet this can take quite a while. Once we’re updated, the security holes allowing this minor hacking and malware insertion should completely cease.
Until then, PLEASE get yourself a Web Shield. This is NOT a spyware scanner or virus scanner, but a Website scanner. It’s a bit different and runs in real time. That way, if any site you visit has been hacked in this manner, (apparently this has happened on sites like NASA and other high profile sites too) you will be warned and can stop the connection before the virus hits your computer, making it totally ineffective. I’ve heard users tell me they took hours to clean this little bugger off their systems…however, this means you do NOT have a Web Shield blocking streaming internet viruses and chances are you may have some on your system already due to that security opening on your PC. Why not stop it before it gets there instead! 😉
The free virus scanner from Avast is one of the best ones out there and it includes ALL real time scanners that a PC user could possibly ever need, including the web shield and a network shield. http://www.avast.com Once registered (completely free) you need only re-register once per year to keep it active.
I offer my sincere apologies for this issue. I know I am not alone in having problems of this nature. It’s really sad that people out there find it necessary to create malware and spread their diseases all over the internet. I guess we are getting some attention now with Google…so I will need to be diligent in keeping up security on this site. Please do inform me if your scanners pick anything up in the next couple hours. I have manually found and cleaned this up, however, the security hole is open until the updates later today so it is possible it could come back before I do the update. Get that web shield!!!
